I’m a child of the 1960s. I ‘witnessed’ the Civil Rights era on television. Much like social media, television documented events live.
I grew up in a world full of violence and protest: civil rights and anti-war protesters. Then, like now, dissenting voices were ridiculed and threatened. The status quo was being challenged.
I listened to Martin Luther King Jr speak. Softly, spiritually, and firmly about justice, equality, and oppression. Freedom from oppression. Humanity and the right to live as fully human.
He had a way about him that drew you into his powerful words. Even as a little kid, I believed him. I’d seen the beatings, the dogs let loose, and the bus set aflame; I still believed his words would come true.
I lived to see his dream come true, but he did not.
Yesterday I heard a man speak such powerful words again. He invoked MLK Jr as he spoke. His words held my attention.
These are very important words. They speak to humanity, peace, and justice. Things that we need in the world now.

The man is all love and charisma. Fearless in his speech and yet I've never heard him utter a mean word
