I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. We’ve gotten this far so it’s a reason to celebrate.
2023 for my husband and me was a nail-biter. We entered the year with fear that he had cancer. After months of testing, they had narrowed down the problem. Thankfully it wasn’t cancer. The rest of the year followed the same path.
The last time I wrote here I mentioned changes to this newsletter and the first anniversary. Then I disappeared. Well, that was another 2023 event…
My husband and I went out to dinner with a friend the following week. That was the last trip “out” I’ve taken in three months. I ended up in the emergency room and was admitted for five days. I now have a walker and a shower bench in my life.
For the past three months, I’ve had my life change radically. I’ve also learned a lot about resiliency and humility. I’m adapting to my new normal, which is a blessing in disguise in many ways.
I came to understand what is truly important in life and what isn’t. That’s why I used this quote up top.
Every day can be a struggle, but it’s also a blessing. Our plans may not materialize but maybe they were premature… or not right for us. It doesn’t matter.
What does matter is that you get a new day when you wake up. You can start over fresh.
I’m optimistic about 2024. I feel energized and renewed. It may sound strange considering I’m relatively homebound. That seems to be the point for me. I have a newfound freedom.
I guess it’s how you look at your circumstances. A matter of perspective.
As you enter 2024, look for the bright spot, not the shadows. It’s easy to see the negative. When you change your perspective, you see the positive aspects of your situation.
Don’t give up hope either. Hope is what drives your strive. It’s a powerful engine that pushes you through the darkest of situations.
Humans are emotional beings, easily discouraged based on a mood (which is a fleeting thing). Hope changes that equation. It is always there working shoulder-to-shoulder with you as you plod along. It’s not fantasy or wishful thinking. It’s reality brought to action.
I hope this gives you food for thought. I’d love to hear what you think so please leave a comment
I wish you all a healthy, happy, and wonderful new year. Be kind to yourself and each other… you’ll make the world a better place.
